Silverpoint Drawing Gallery
Silverpoint is an obscure ancient method of drawing with a piece of silver on a prepared surface. Renaissance artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Botticelli and Dürer used this pre-pencil technique to create luminous drawings. As the silver passes across the paper it leaves a thin deposit in the material used for the ground. The buildup of silver is a slow and controlled process and a very sure hand is required, because no erasure is possible.
The silver obtains a beautiful warm patina over time and is archival, lasting hundreds of years.
Only originals are available, no prints, because silverpoints do not reproduce well and the artist wants the viewer to experience the patina evolution.
